Delilah’s Second Chance, Five Years in the Making

Some dogs arrive at Luna Foundation scared of people.Delilah arrived with a different kind of heartbreak.

Delilah was adopted from our sanctuary as a puppy, full of hope, full of potential, and ready to belong to a family of her own. But later, she was abandoned and brought back to us.

And yes, it hit hard, because when a dog has already dared to trust once, being left behind again leaves a mark.

But here is the part we want you to know, Delilah didn’t let that ending define her.

Five years later, she’s still gentle

Delilah has been with us for over five years, and if you’ve ever met her, you’ll understand why we talk about her with that soft smile in our voice.

She’s a super sweet girl, the kind who doesn’t need to be loud to be lovable. She watches first, then leans in. She takes her time, then gives her whole heart.

When Delilah first returned to us, she was shy. She didn’t trust easily, and who could blame her. She needed patience, consistency, and calm, and she got it, day by day at our Safe Haven.

Now, she’s ready.

Ready for a real home, a stable home, the kind that doesn’t disappear.

Meet Delilah, our “local shepherd” with model legs

Delilah is what we lovingly call a local shepherd, an Aruba mixed breed with that shepherd look and a smart, soulful presence.

And then there are her legs.

Delilah has the longest legs, truly, she looks like she was built for runway walks through the cunucu. Elegant, athletic, and surprisingly graceful, until she gets excited and forgets she’s basically a giraffe in dog form.

She is spayed, healthy, and ready to start her next chapter.

What Delilah needs to thrive

Delilah doesn’t need anything complicated, she needs what every dog deserves.

A person (or family) who will:

  • give her time to settle and feel safe

  • be patient as she continues building trust

  • offer a calm, loving routine

  • commit for the long haul

There is one very important practical detail, Delilah is a high jumper. Those long legs are not just for show.

She will need a home with a high, secure fence, because if she spots something interesting or gets a burst of confidence, she can clear a low fence like it’s not even there. It’s not “naughty,” it’s athletic, and it’s manageable with the right setup.

Give her security, and she’ll give you loyalty.

Why adopting Delilah matters

Delilah has waited a long time. Over five years is a long time to be overlooked, especially when you’re sweet, gentle, and quietly hopeful.

We would love her next home to be the forever kind.

Because Delilah already knows what it feels like to be chosen, and what it feels like to lose it. She deserves to be chosen again, this time by someone who means it.

Could you be her person?

If you’ve been thinking about adopting, or if you’ve been waiting for a sign, consider this your sign with four paws and the longest legs on the island.

Delilah is ready for her new home now.

If you think you could be the right match, reach out to Luna Foundation and tell us you’re interested in Delilah. We’ll guide you through the next steps, talk about your home setup (especially fencing), and make sure it’s the right fit for everyone.

Let’s give Delilah the ending she’s been waiting for.

Because five years is long enough.
